PORTLAND, Ore. — Two people are dead after leading police officers on a chase before crashing a stolen vehicle early Tuesday morning, according to Portland police. Two other people involved in the crash were injured.
Gresham police officers attempted to stop a vehicle just after midnight in the area of Southeast 159th Avenue and Southeast Division Street. The vehicle did not stop, and minutes later, Gresham police officers found the vehicle had crashed near the intersection of Southeast 139th Avenue and Southeast Division Street, Portland police said.
Additional officers from the East Precinct responded and found the vehicle had crashed into another vehicle and a utility pole, which knocked out power to nearby residents. The police officers found two men dead inside the vehicle, and another man who was seriously injured, Portland police said. That man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Portland police officers learned that the vehicle the men were in had been reported stolen.
The driver of the other vehicle, a woman, had minor injuries.
Portland police has not identified anyone who was involved in the deadly crash.
The Portland Police Bureau Major Crash Team is investigating. Southeast Division Street will be closed between Southeast 136th Avenue and Southeast 142nd Avenue during the investigation.
