PORTLAND, Ore. — A Portland radio station is playing all Christmas music on Election Day as a way to provide a space of upliftment and positivity to combat the stress the Election Day brings.
Local station 104.1 The Fish, known for playing uplifting and positive music, has decided to kickstart the holiday season launching Christmas music on the morning of Election Day.
Program director and afternoon drive personality Chris Kelly mentions that despite the elections being the motivating factor for this decision, Christmas has a way of unifying people amid the differences of opinions Tuesday brings across the nation.
“Christmas is that one time of the year where we come just about as close as you can get to be unified in celebrating the birth of Christ and spending time with family," Kelly said. "We thought with all the divisiveness that Election Day generates, that it would be the perfect day to start our Christmas music.”
Marketing and promotions director Sue Wilson also adds that playing Christmas music early helps reach a new audience of people that typically wouldn't tune into The Fish:
“Playing Christmas music allows us to reach people who may not ordinarily listen to The Fish. We invite people to come to the station for the Christmas music, and then stay for the uplifting and positive music, encouraging stories between the songs and the warm and relatable air personalities.”
Anyone looking to tune in for some Christmas music can tune into 104.1 FM or listen online here.
