Local coffee shops get creative to keep us caffeinated

Local coffee shops are making sure we don't have to go with out our cup of joe, even though that means some big changes on their part.

OK, so we may be able to get by without things like shaving during this pandemic, or in some cases showering, but one thing most of us are not about to give up is our coffee.

And local coffee shops are making sure we don't have to, even though that means some big changes on their part.

Portland-based Coava Coffee has shut down two of its three Portland cafes.

The remaining open one is serving takeout only.

"It's been challenging and it's been a quick learning experience to change all the systems to make sure we're complying properly," said vice president of operations Jonathan Felix Lund.

Many are also shifting to online orders and deliveries.

Instead of delivering 50 to 100 pounds bags of coffee to corporate offices, James Hull, owner of Local Roasting Co, is delivering 20 to 30 12-ounce bags.

"I spend a lot of time in grocery stores," said Hull. "So that's pretty much our business now... it's a lot more work but I'm definitely not complaining."

Nope, you're not going to find your favorite coffee roasters complaining.

They are grateful to still be able to serve you your favorite cup of joe.

And in many cases, they're even giving back.

Stumptown is donating coffee to doctors, nurses, and support staff working to keep our communities safe, making sure those taking care of us -  are fully caffeinated too.
