HILLSBORO, Ore. -- Intel is laying off 784 people at its facilities in Aloha and Hillsboro, according to an announcement from state worker displacement officials.

The notice said the layoffs will be announced between Wednesday and April 29 and the employees' last day will be May 31.

Intel will offer each worker six weeks of pay and three months of COBRA health care premiums.

Intel WARN Letter

According to the company's website, Intel has about 18,600 workers at six Washington County facilities.

Hillsboro Mayor Jerry Willey issued the following statement:

“Intel has increased its total number of employees in our area to 19,500. That represents an increase of 2,000 employees in the two years since the City of Hillsboro, Washington County, and Intel successfully negotiated the 30-Year, $100 billion Strategic Investment Program (SIP) agreement in 2014.

We understand how difficult this decision is for all parties. We are hopeful that Intel’s decision to restructure its organization to position itself for future success will ultimately lead to additional investment and employment opportunities here in Hillsboro and Washington County.

Intel is a great corporate neighbor and we will continue to do what we can as a City to support our state’s largest private employer.”

Amid massive company-wide layoffs, Intel is also set to close operations at its DuPont, Wash., office, according to DuPont mayor Michael Courts.

Intel announced last week plans to reduce its labor force by 11 percent, affecting about 12,000 people. The layoffs will happen mostly over the next two months, bur could extend to 2017, according to a company press release.

Courts said closing the DuPont operations will impact about 350 employees. There is no timeline for reductions or when the facility may close.
