PORTLAND, Ind. — SteepleJack Brewing plans to expand and open its fourth location on the restaurant and thrift-centric Hawthorne Boulevard.
The new taphouse will take over the gutted Bank of America branch at 3757 Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard. It will feature not just the brewery's award-winning beers, but also five food trucks and two new food and drink ventures by SteepleJack Brewing's founders Brody Day and Dustin Harder: A Harder Day Coffee bar and a bakery counter.
Day and Harder started Harder Day Coffee Company this year and opened their first café and roastery in March, at 4229 Southeast Woodstock Boulevard. Now, the pair is starting a third business to provide baked goods for all the Harder Day and SteepleJack locations.
Hawthorne's shared taproom, café and food truck pod is expected to open in late summer or early fall.
"We are in permitting right now with the city, so it’s a little tough to plan," Day said.
SteepleJack brewing started in 2020 and is best known for its iconic location in a 100-year-old church along Broadway in Northeast Portland. It also has two other locations in Hillsboro and Hillsdale.
While the brewery's Hawthorne location won't be decked out with stained-glass windows or have food from their executive chef Lawrence Gables, who has worked at a handful of popular Portland eateries, including Ava Genes, Andina and Mama Bird. The location will have a large outdoor seating area surrounded by food trucks, somewhat similar to the German pub Prost! on Mississippi.
"We've been looking for quite a while in Southeast for a next project and stumbled upon this site," Day said.
So far, he said it's been "quite a ride" to get the new place ready but is excited to soon be joining Hawthorne Boulevard.
