PORTLAND, Ore. — Still in the midst of the global Covid-19 pandemic and the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, it may be hard for many Oregonians to think about career plans for the next decade, though many have likely been reconsidering their occupations due to economic disruption or potential exposure to the new coronavirus.

Last month, though, the Oregon Employment Department released its latest 10-year forecast of employment projections for the state. Several industries and dozens of positions are expected to see double-digit percentage growth.
In an article accompanying the data release, projections economist Felicia Bechtoldt wrote, "13 of the 20 fastest-growing occupations with 2019 employment of 1,000 or more are health care occupations and those associated with health care, including mental health."
Personal care services, restaurant, computer programming, software and various research analysis positions are expected to make big gains as well.
In terms of education, 11 of the 25 fastest-growing occupations in the gallery below, typically required a bachelor's degree or more for entry level and 14 required that level of education to be competitive as a candidate. Eight required an associate degree or non-degree post-secondary training for entry, and six required a high school diploma or less.
