PORTLAND, Ore. — Oregon wine is big business and growing bigger.

Last year, wineries in the state released 7.9 million gallons of wine from bond, up 12.6 percent from 2017. That measurement refers to the volume of wine that producers put on the market for sale, as opposed to wine produced but not yet sent out for sale.

In 2017, 769 wineries sold 3.6 million cases of wine worth $550.6 million, according to the Oregon Vineyard and Winery Report from the Institute for Policy Research and Engagement at the University of Oregon. Compare that with 10 years earlier when 370 wineries produced 2.1 million cases.

The state's biggest wine producers put more than a half-million gallons on the market last year and produced more than 300,000 cases. Nine of the top 10 producers are in the Willamette, and six are in Yamhill County, the heart of Oregon wine country.
