Gas prices expected to drop for Oregonians amid the holiday season

AAA is projecting this Thanksgiving to be the third busiest on record, with 785,000 Oregonians expected to travel next week.

OREGON, USA — Do you have plans on heading out on the road this Thanksgiving? You won’t be alone, with more than three quarters of a million people in Oregon traveling. According to AAA, the cost of gas is expected to go down at a lower cost than last holiday season.

Even though the roads will be packed, this year it’s not going to be costing you as much just to fill up to go to Thanksgiving dinner. Even though many of us have been cringing over the last few months when it comes to the price of gas. Lately we’ve been seeing prices fall nationally and here locally.

“This time of year when we typically see gas prices decline for a couple of reasons, one is we switch to a cheap blend of fuel and it’s cheaper to produce,” said Marie Dodds with AAA.

The average price of a gallon of gas in Oregon is four dollars and nineteen cents, and nationwide it’s three dollars and thirty-five cents a gallon. That’s cheaper from what we were paying this time last year. Dodds says this is going to be the third biggest travel day on record. The only busier ones were in 2005 and 2019.

“We are looking at 55 million Americans and more than 785 thousand Oregonians heading over the river and through the woods,” added Dodds.

With that many people on the road this year, drivers are thankful that it’ll be easier to get around this year as gas prices start to drop.

The top destinations for Oregonians are Bend, Seattle and Lincoln City this year over the holiday weekend next week.
