PORTLAND, Ore. — The award-winning founder and chef of Kann in Southeast Portland will be heading to New York City.
Gregory Gourdet has been named the culinary director at an upcoming New York City location of Printemps, the first U.S. location of a Paris department store that was founded in 1865. The location will open in spring 2025.
Gourdet will oversee "five concepts" of food and beverage outlets, ranging from a casual cafe to fine dining, according to a press release. Saga Hospitality Group will be the operating partner.
“I am absolutely thrilled to join the team at Printemps and contribute to this historic project,” Gourdet said in a press release. “As a native New Yorker, this is a homecoming, and I am excited to cook once again in NYC, the city I still proudly call home."
Gourdet, a native of Queens, New York, attended the Culinary Institue of America and became the school's first student to land an opportunity with celebrity chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. In Vongerichten's kitchen for seven years, he mastered his skills, eventually becoming the "chef de cuisine," or head of kitchen.
Later, Gourdet made his way to Portland, where he became a director of culinary operations at Departure Restaurant and Lounge and helped burnish the Rose City's high-end dining reputation. He opened his Haitian-inspired restaurant, Kann, in August 2022, which won a James Beard Award in the 2022 "Best New Restaurant" category.
