PORTLAND, Ore. — Ox Restaurant, a popular Argentinian-inspired restaurant in Northeast Portland, is set to reopen three months after a fire destroyed its grill area — a mainstay of the restaurant's food.
"After months of repairs and delays, we are finally ready to open our doors this Wednesday, July 10th!." Ox Restaurant said on Instagram. "We cannot wait to light up that grill and feed you all!"
Greg Denton, chef and co-owner of Ox Restaurant, told KGW in March following the closure that the fire started in the restaurant's duct work. Staff noticed the smoke and were able to safely evacuate everyone and call 911. Portland Fire 7 Rescue confirmed that the fire started in a flue over a grill on the first level.
Denton said that the fire caused considerable damage to the grill area and ducts that required repairs. He added that the grill is an integral way Ox prepares its food, which is known as some of the best in Portland.
In 2017, Denton and his wife Gabrielle won a James Beard Award for best chef in the Northwest for their wood-fired Argentinian-inspired cooking. Denton said it was a "major blow" when the fire occurred.
