Gregory Gourdet's Kann named one of the top 20 restaurants in the US

Kann was the only restaurant from the Pacific Northwest to make Food & Wine's top 20 list, which features award-winning places from around the U.S.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Kann in Southeast Portland has been named one of Food & Wine's top 20 restaurants in the U.S. in its annual Global Tastemaker Awards.

The restaurant is known for its creative celebration of Haitian cuisine, often marrying it with Pacific Northwest ingredients cooked over a live-fire. Gregory Gourdet's Kann earned the 2023 James Beard Foundation's Best New Restaurant award.

This year, Gourdet is back in the running for a James Beard Award, also called the "Oscars of the food world," but this time as "Best Chef" in the Pacific Northwest.

Kann was the only restaurant from the Pacific Northwest to make Food & Wine's top 20 list, which features award-winning places from New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles and Texas. 

Gourdet opened Kann in August 2022 which became an instant-hit. Six weeks after its opening, Kann landed on the New York Times list of 2022's top 50 restaurants in the country. It also ranked No. 1 on Esquire’s best new restaurants in America in 2022.
