PORTLAND, Ore. — Longtime Southeast Portland mainstay Jaciva's Bakery & Chocolatier will close its doors on June 29, the business announced Tuesday.
The business, located at 4733 Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard, announced its closure last year but did not specify a date.
JaCiva's said via Facebook and its website that the building remains for sale, "but we can no longer realistically operate in a way that is beneficial to both our staff and our customers."
"Thank you so much for nearly 40 beautiful years. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your most cherished memories as you celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, and all of life’s milestones. We have loved making your lives a little sweeter," the business said, in part.
Jaciva's added that all items will be first come, first served and that they will not be taking preorders at this time.
Manager Laura Boscole’s parents opened JaCiva's in 1985. In a 2023 interview with KGW, Boscole cited the pandemic and increased crime as the reason why they never fully recovered, adding that they've lost about half their business in the last few years.
“Portland small businesses are struggling, and we're not different — it's just very hard right now in this environment,” said Boscole. “I think it's harder for people to get out and want to get out and feel safe.”
