PORTLAND, Ore. — Basilisk in Northeast Portland has been named the best fried chicken restaurant in Oregon, according to Yelp.

The chicken shop is known for its hefty fried chicken sandwiches and their signature hot sauce marking the whole experience "finger lickin" good.

Yelp selected Basilisk as the state's best in their "guide to fried chicken in every state" that also includes Sisters and Brothers in Seattle. The list was picked by "Yelp Elites," which the company calls trusted recommenders that look for businesses with a "large concentration" of five star reviews. As of July 11, Basilisk has amassed a 4.4 star rating with 600 reviews.

Basilisk opened in March 2016 at the Zipper, a micro-food complex on Northeast Sandy Street that's also home to Boxcar Pizza and several other eateries. It replaced Rua, a vietnamese-inspired restaurant, founded by the same owner.

Jason Myers told the Oregonian after Rua launched it had "lukewarm" reviews, so he pivoted to create a fried-chicken dominate restaurant. In that same year, the Oregonian named it Portland's best fried chicken sandwich.

The restaurant, named after the chicken monster in Dungeons and Dragons, now services towering fried chicken sandwiches, hot chicken and Dandan style fries with a house made Szechuan peanut sauce. It also offers vegetarian options with a fried tofu sandwich and fried tofu salad.
