Zebra search continues in Washington state after confirmed sighting Tuesday

The last missing zebra was reportedly seen on Thursday morning, but remains on the loose according to King County Animal Control.

RIVERBEND, Wash. — The missing zebra that has captivated the nation over the past few days was spotted several times this week near North Bend but remains on the loose 5 days after escaping from her owner's truck.

On Thursday, the Regional Animal Services of King County confirmed the missing zebra is a mare, or female zebra. Animal services said there have been several credible sightings of the zebra, including a sighting on the morning of May 2.

Animal control officers are not actively searching for the zebra.

It all began Sunday afternoon when four zebras managed to get free from a trailer after their owner stopped near Interstate 90 during a journey to Montana. Three of the zebras were eventually corralled, but one ended up eluding authorities.

King County Animal Control confirmed to KING 5 that the outstanding zebra was seen Tuesday morning southeast of Riverbend, located southeast across I-90 from North Bend.

Anyone who spots the zebra is asked to call 911 or 206-296-7387. Residents are asked not to approach the zebra or try to capture her.

The zebras' owner continued her journey to Montana with the three corralled animals, Animal Control previously said.

Videos of the zebra running through North Bend were circulated widely on social media on Sunday and Monday. A man who helped block the zebras from running onto the major highway spoke to KING 5 about his experience.

"A little bit of disbelief, and really just, how can we help?” Dan Barnett of North Bend said.

Barnett said other drivers had the same urge to help. They jumped into action.

"The cars on the offramp kind of pulled over by the guardrail and lined up really close to kind of make a makeshift fence to keep them from coming up onto the offramp area," Barnett said.
