PORTLAND, Ore. — Around 550 animals found a new home at a large-scale adoption event in and around Portland over the weekend.
Between Friday and Sunday, a handful of agencies collectively known as Animal Shelter Alliance of Portland, or ASAP held its first-ever ADOPT ASAP event. Five agencies — the Oregon Humane Society, Multnomah County Animal Services, Washington County Animal Services, the Cat Adoption Team and the Humane Society of Southwest Washington — all banded together for one goal: to adopt as many pets as possible.
While each organization often holds adoption events, this time they came together to offer 75% off adoption fees at each location over the three-day event. It resulted in 549 pets being adopted across all five locations, Oregon Humane Society said.
The pets adopted include a 14-year-old dog named Bella, who found a new home from Washington County Animal Services. There was also Jeanette, a cat who found a new home via the Cat Adoption Team after having been bounced around shelters.
Here's a breakdown of how many pets were adopted and from where, per the Oregon Humane Society:
- Humane Society for Southwest Washington: 130
- Washington County Animal Services: 12
