Retired police dog competing for $10K award for Oregon nonprofits

A three-year-old Dutch Malinois is one of 10 finalists for the role of Chief Treat Officer in a competition. Online voting is open through Oct. 23.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Meet Lin: a sweet, spirited three-year old Dutch Malinois with a Hollywood connection.

Lin lost his leg in the line of duty with the Mendicino County Sheriff and spent a year undergoing rehab with the Beaverton nonprofit, Working Dogs Oregon. One of the nonprofit's primary missions is putting dogs to work with police agencies and veterans, and to help working dogs find good homes once their service is up.

Maybe you’ve heard of Oh Norman? There's a Hollywood connection. The natural dog treat and apparel company —  founded by actress and Big Bang star Kayley Cuoco —  is in search of a mascot, or a Chief Treat Officer.

Out of over 3,000 video submissions, Lin is among 10 finalists for that coveted role and a $10,000 prize for the nonprofit helped him recover, like Working Dogs Oregon and the South Coast Humane Society in Brookings, which performed his surgery.

Online voting is open through Wednesday, Oct. 23, and it's one vote per email address. There are lots of deserving candidates, but of course, the cash award could do a lot towards helping nonprofits do the work they do.
