PORTLAND, Ore. — Many food trends have popped up on Instagram, TikTok, and other social media platforms. But a lot of the time, those Instagram-worthy food pictures are impossible for most of us who aren't fancy chefs.
Luckily, while we're all at home practicing social distancing, a new trend has emerged, and it's one we're all actually capable of.
Whipped coffee.
If you've spent any time on TikTok lately, you may have noticed many people making this drink. And maybe, like me, you're curious as to what it tastes like, and if it's actually possible to make.
Now, I have to point out that this drink was not created on TikTok. It has actually been around for a while, with origins in Greece, India, Pakistan, and Southeast Asia. But whipped coffee (or dalgona, another name for it) started to get really popular in January, when it appeared on a Korean TV show called Pyunstorang.
So now to the hard work I put in (just kidding, this is very easy to make) for all of us, in the name of caffeine.
Want to try it yourself? Here's what you need:
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2 tbsp instant coffee
- 2 tbsp hot water
- 1 cup milk of any kind
Directions:
- Step 1. Add sugar, water, and instant coffee to a mixing bowl
- Step 2. Using a hand mixer or whisk, mix the ingredients until the mixture holds soft peaks (basically until it turns into coffee whipped cream)
- Step 3. Put your milk in a cup, and then spoon the whipped coffee on top of the milk
- Step 4. Enjoy!
