Iron Maiden flies their own 747 to Seattle airport

SEATTLE, Wash. -- The heavy metal band Iron Maiden flew their own jumbo jet to Seattle Tacoma International Airport on Monday.

This Boeing 747 made the trip from Vancouver, B.C. to Sea-Tac Airport ahead of the Tacoma Dome concert.

The plane – nicknamed "Ed Force One” after the band's mascot Eddie the Head – is how band members and their gear get around on their current world tour.

After a short taxi ride to an airport cargo area, airport workers, including Tim, huddled around the plane.

“I'm quite the fan. I always have been,” he said.

“I grew up on these guys, so it's incredible,” said Paul Bongorno.

Other diehard Maiden fans waited behind the airport's fence. They know not only does the band have its own plane, it has its own pilot.

Pilot Bruce Dickinson is also the lead singer. He was in the cockpit - and Bruce Dickinson joined him. Same name, different guy. This one is a Boeing VP

“I have the distinct privilege of running the 747 and 767 program and he has the distinct privilege of being a rock star and flying the 747,” he said.

And pilot Bruce admits not many people confuse the two.
