PORTLAND, Ore. – The Fourth of July is coming up, which means the mad rush to buy fireworks has begun in Oregon and Washington.

Oregon:

Fireworks went on sale in Oregon on June 23 and will be legally sold until July 6. You must be at least 16 years old to buy fireworks in Oregon.

Most fireworks are illegal in Oregon but there are some exceptions. Fireworks that fly, explode or travel more than six feet on the ground or one foot in the air are illegal. People who shoot off illegal fireworks could be fined $1,000 per violation.

Here’s a look at what fireworks are considered legal and illegal in Oregon:

Washington:

Rules vary a little more in Washington, where fireworks went on sale in some areas on Tuesday.

Vancouver is a city with some restrictions though. People can only use fireworks on the Fourth of July between 9 a.m. and midnight. They are also not on sale until July 2. Next year, they will be banned year-round.

In Clark County, hours and times vary depending on where you live.

If you want to report illegal fireworks in Multnomah County, police urged people not to call 911. Instead, call the non-emergency number at 503-823-3333. Portland Fire & Rescue also launched an online form for reporting illegal fireworks here.

To report fireworks noise or illegal use of fireworks in Clark Count, call 311. Only call 911 to report a fire or injury.
