PORTLAND, Ore. — Winter has officially kicked off with snow and ice storms across the Portland metro area the past week, but for anyone who can safely travel around, there are a lot of great events out there this weekend.
With Portland Music Month coming to end, the music scene will continue to brighten up winter with shows the rest of the month across 21 local venues.
If you're seeking a movie kind of vibe, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry brings back its Studio Ghibli Film Festival, or you can catch one of two special screenings of the Beatles' debut film "A Hard Day's Night." Feeling more theatrical? You can catch Disney's The Lion King at Keller Auditorium.
For those trying to avoid the icy weather this weekend, bring the party home with The Numberz 96.7 FM IN DA CLUB party mix.
From the Harlem Globetrotters, Oregon Cider Week to an Anti-Resolution party, there's something for everyone this weekend.
Disney's The Lion King
When: Jan. 7-28
Where: Keller Auditorium
What's going on: The award-winning Disney's The Lion King Broadway show has made its way to Portland this month. Director Julie Taymor's take on the classic film has won six Tony Awards. The coming-of-age show follows the journey of a young royal cub who is faced with heartbreaking tragedy and betrayal. Through his adversity that he overcomes, he grows up to be the king he is destined to be for his kingdom. From the classic soundtrack featuring the beloved music of Elton John, to the colorful costumes and lively performances, even KGW's very own Katherine Cook can attest to the "breathtaking production." Tickets range from $34.75 - $124.75.

Studio Ghibli Film Festival
When: Jan. 12 - Feb. 25
Where: Empirical Theater at OMSI, 1945 Southeast Water Avenue Suite 100, Portland
What's going on: The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry brings back its Studio Ghibli Film Festival. The event runs until Feb. 25, giving the audience an opportunity to experience 21 films from the acclaimed animation studios. Certain screenings will include special guest speakers. Some of the films on the list for this weekend include "Howl's Moving Castle," "My Neighbor Totoro" and more.

Oregon Cider Week
When: Jan. 13 - 21
Where: Multiple locations across Portland
What's going on: Cider lovers rejoice! Oregon Cider Week is back and ready to fill your cup. NW Cider Association along with Columbia Distribution are hosting a statewide celebration of cider. Oregon Cider Week is a nine-day event that taps a buzz of excitement around the world's largest cider conference returning to Portland for the first time in nearly a decade, welcoming over 1,000 attendees to the Rose City by rolling out the red flannel carpet. All things apple will take center stage during this festive week, jam packed with tastings, tap takeovers, tours, trivia, education, parties, festivals, flights, food pairings, meet the maker events and more. Some events have be canceled due to weather, but there will be event taking place this weekend.

Anti-Resolution Party
When: Jan. 20, 12 p.m. - 6 p.m.
Where: Midtowners Market, 1736 SE Hawthorne Boulevard, Portland
What's going on: It's that time in the New Year where at this point people either remain committed to their resolutions or ditch them. If you ditched your resolutions, join other Portlanders who will be celebrating this! Make your way over to Midtowners Market for an afternoon of pampering for your body, mind and spirit. There will be hand poke tattoos, tarot readings, handmade jewelry for sale, and of course, plenty of carbs and booze (Dry January who?).

Harlem Globetrotters
When: Jan. 20, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Where: Moda Center, 1 Center Court, Portland
What's going on: The Harlem Globetrotters truly bring a unique basketball experience. See incredible skill while enjoying some laughs when they’re in town this weekend. The Globetrotters have two games on Saturday, one at 2 p.m. and another at 7 p.m. Ticket prices start at $30 plus fees.

The Beatles 'A Hard Days Night'
When: Jan. 20, 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Where: Clinton Street Theater, 2522 Southeast Clinton Street, Portland
What's going on: In honor of Portland Music Month, the Clinton Street Theater will host two special screenings of the Beatles' debut film "A Hard Day's Night." Filmed just one month after the Fab Four exploded onto the U.S. scene with their Ed Sullivan Show performance, the film stands as a document of the initial Beatlemania craze. The film is considered to be one of the most influential music films of all time, later inspiring musical comedies like "The Monkees" TV series. Tickets start at $10.

Portland Music Month
When: Multiple dates throughout January
Where: Mississippi Studios & Bar Bar, 3939 North Mississippi Avenue, Portland
What's going on: January is Portland's music month, dedicated to reviving the vibrant local music industry. Folks are encouraged to break out of their mid-winter hibernation to help support independent venues and artists by seeing live shows, buying merch, winning prizes and supporting Music Oregon's Echo Fund. If you are a lover of music and enjoy discovering new music, this event is for you.

The Numberz presents In Da Club
When: Jan. 20
What's going on: If you're a homebody and prefer to stay in, why not bring the party to you? Stream online or turn on 96.7 FM in the Portland area to listen to various hot mixes from Portland's Black-led station The Numberz. In Da Club is a program that airs every Saturday night with pre-recorded mixes from various hot local DJs around town. The night kicks off with DJ AMBUSH and DJ ALOSO from 9 p.m. until 10 p.m. DJ IMPENZI takes over until 11 p.m. DJ ASHE continues on with smooth upbeat sounds until 12 a.m. The night ends with a mix from the Trail Blazers legendary DJ O.G. ONE until 1 a.m.
