Skateboarding tournament, Portland Hip Hop Week, Oregon State Fair and more to do this weekend

This weekend brings an array of celebrations across town, from Portland Hip Hop Week to the Oregon State Fair, Portland Burger Week and much more.

PORTLAND, Ore. — We have officially entered the second to last weekend of August and Portland will soon be filled with autumn leaves! With many festivities and celebrations across town, there are a ton of options to fill up your weekend as summer winds down.

PDX Hip Hop Week

When: Now-Aug. 26
Where: Various locations around the Portland metro area
What's going on: Portland Hip Hop Week is here with an array of events to honor and recognize the vibrant culture here in the Rose City. Events include Skate n Shake at Oaks Park, live performances at Alberta Street Pub, and a day-long showcase of hip-hop and comedy at Stage 722 on Southeast 10th Avenue. The 4th Annual Hip Hop, Wine And Chill will also be back. It will be hosted by David Jackson, also known as DJ O.G.ONE, at Abbey Creek Vineyard & Winery in North Plains. Hip Hop Week in Portland aims to unify, amplify, educate and elevate the culture.

Dahlia Festival

When: Every Wednesday–Sunday through Sept. 29, 9 a.m.–5:30 p.m.
Where: Swan Island Dahlias, 995 Northwest 22nd Avenue, Canby
What's going on: Get your camera ready! The Dahlia Festival includes more than 40 acres of dahlias featuring over 370 varieties, and anyone can sign up for flower arranging and crafts classes, listen to flower care lectures, take a bunch of flowers home, and more.

Oregon State Fair

When: Aug. 23-Sept. 2
Where: Oregon State Fair & Exposition Center, 2330 17th Street Northeast, Salem
What's going on: What better way to end the summer than with a trip to the annual Oregon State Fair? Fair attendees can expect carnival attractions, food, live music, livestock competitions and much more. This year, the fair announced no service fees.

Portland Burger Week

When: Now-Aug. 25
Where: Various locations around the Portland metro area
What's going on: The Portland Mercury's Burger Week is underway, offering hamburger lovers juicy burgers for $8 each. The popular food week features vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options.

Hawthorne Street Fair

When: Aug. 25
Where: Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard, Portland
What's going on: Portland's Hawthorne neighborhood is celebrating its 41tst annual street fair with a bang! As the city's original "shop local" district, attendees can explore over 200 businesses while enjoying great food, music and vendors. Hawthorne Boulevard will be shut down to cars from Cesar Chavez to 30th Avenue. Admission is free and the event runs from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

Beaverton Music Festival

When: Aug. 24
Where: Schiffler Park, 5495 Southwest Erickson Avenue, Beaverton
What's going on: Want to fill your day with music? Here's your chance! The inaugural Beaverton Music Festival will be taking place this weekend. It starts at noon, with doors opening at 11:30 a.m. at Beaverton's Schiffler Park. Artists and groups such as Girl Crush, Wren the Band, Oregon's very own Jacquie Roar, and more will be performing. Food and beverages, including beer, wine, ciders and plenty of non-alcohol drinks, will be available for sale.

Hood to Coast Relay

When: Aug. 23-24
Where: Timberline Lodge, Government Camp
What's going on: This weekend marks the iconic return of the Hood to Coast Relay! It's one of the most popular and largest relays of its kind in the world, drawing people from all over the U.S. and beyond. The event features teams of eight to 12 members traveling either 198 miles for the full race from Timberline Lodge to the coast, or 128 miles from Portland to the coast.

Rockstar Energy Open skateboarding event

When: Aug. 23-25
Where: Waterfront Park, 98 Southwest Naito Parkway, Portland
What's going on: Calling all skateboard fanatics! Skateboarders from far and wide will be rolling into downtown Portland for the first Rockstar Energy Open this weekend. Elite pro skaters and up-and-coming skateboarders will skate along a new course Friday through Sunday. The open is also an opportunity for young skaters to compete against pros.
