PORTLAND, Ore. — Several of the fastest track athletes in the U.S. and world competed over the weekend at the Portland Track Festival. Event organizers called it the most talented field of runners ever assembled for the festival.

The races were stacked with top competition; some of the headlining athletes included Olympic gold medalist Sifan Hassan, who competed against a talented group in the women's 800m that included 2023 World Championships finalist Nia Akins and U.S. 1500m champion Sinclair Johnson. Hassan also competed in the women's 1500m against an accomplished field, including KM Deeksha of India, 800m World Indoor Championships competitor Allie Wilson and Venezuelan 5000m record holder Joselyn Brea. The two-day event served as a tune-up for athletes trying to make their way to the nationals and world championships, and this year, the 2024 Paris Olympics. The U.S. Olympic team trials for track and field are in two weeks in Eugene.

This year, the festival was split with the first day at Mt. Hood Community College and the second day at Lincoln High School.
