Mad Cave Studios has started a GoFundMe with the aim to help comic book shops around the country in these trying times.
COVID-19 is affecting all businesses as many states enact stay home orders to flatten the curve of the virus and protect people in their communities. Many comic book shops, probably including your favorites, are small businesses.
Now with distributors limiting, if not stopping, the shipment of new comics, shops are facing an even larger challenge. Mad Cave Studios’ GoFundMe is there for shops that need help. It is attempting to raise $100,000 to help shops around the country. The publisher donated $10,000 to get the campaign started.
As Mad Cave Studios’ GoFundMe says, comic shops aren’t just places you go to get your comics. They’re really a community. I know every week when I go into Floating World Comics, not only do I chat about comics, but I also catch up with the people at the shop, shoot the breeze, and genuinely look forward to those interactions. Every comic shop I have been to in Portland has been such a delight and we want to make sure that our comics shops, here in Portland and beyond, are there for us when life can return to some semblance of normalcy.
If you can donate, please do, if you can’t, spread the word with #ComicRetailerReliefFund on social media.
If you own a shop and would like to apply for the donation, email Mad Cave Studios’ Director of Sales and Retailer Relations, Manny Castellanos at mcastellanos@madcavestudios.com with your information.
