PORTLAND, Oregon — Sabinna Pierre is a digital reporter and digital content producer at KGW News in Portland, Oregon. She joined the team in September 2022.
Pierre's interest in journalism started during her senior year of college. She made history after being elected as the second Black student body president at the University of Oregon. During that time, she would regularly interact with the local media in regards to her role and initiatives. That same year with the passing of Kobe Bryant and the Black Lives Matter protests, her interests in media and how traditionally marginalized communities are framed peaked.
Being a COVID-19 2020 college graduate, majoring in business and double-minored in legal studies and media studies, she was asked to virtually deliver the commencement speech alongside WNBA player Sabrina Ionescu. After delivering her speech, she was sought out by the director of the University of Oregon's graduate journalism program. She went on to become a double-duck by earning her Master's of Science degree at the University of Oregon in Mass Communications and Journalism.
During her time in graduate school, she worked as an on-air talent for The Numberz 96.7 FM in Portland, reporting on Portland's Black community while interviewing celebrities alongside local rising-trailblazer. She also interned remotely at TMZ and was part of the team that first broke the story of singer Rihanna giving birth to her first child.
In her spare time, she enjoys making TikTok videos, watching archived runway shows, attending concerts, recording for her podcast show and spending time with family and friends.
