PORTLAND, Ore. — Jon Goodwin is a photojournalist and reporter at KGW, specializing in feature stories, and is also one of the faces of the “Let’s Get Out There” series.
He joined KGW in March 2019 as a photojournalist, and previously worked as a special projects producer at KGW’s sister station, WVEC, in Norfolk, Va. He has covered Pope Francis’ 2015 historic first visit to the U.S. in Washington, D.C. and many a hurricane landfall from North Carolina’s Outer Banks.
He also spent a week in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba filing stories about life on the remote U.S. military base in 2016.
Jon grew up in a Navy family and moved cross-country several times as a kid. Fun fact: his dad was the first commanding officer of the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (look it up!). He spent most of his teenage years in the Seattle area, and of all the places he’s lived, none rival the Pacific Northwest.
A grad of Auburn University, Jon was a member of the 2004 Auburn baseball team. He loves pulling for his Tigers and has been a diehard Seattle Mariners fan for over 25 years.
Jon and his wife Jen have two boys, and love finding new day trips and outdoor adventures to get into.
It has been a great privilege to tell the stories of people in Oregon and SW Washington, and what a blessing it is for Jon to mix work and play with “Let’s Get Out There.” He values the chance to highlight the great people and places the PNW boasts.
