PORTLAND, Ore. — Celine Stevens is a reporter at KGW News and joined the team in August 2024.
Before moving to Portland, Celine started her journalism career at KBAK/KBFX in Bakersfield, California. She reported during the week and provided Kern County with the weather forecast every weekend.
While there, she covered several breaking news events and stories. Her stories ranged from the housing crisis and crime, to major problems affecting residents within cities facing severe socio-economic struggles, to investigating the controversy surrounding a long-awaited Veterans Affairs clinic.
She also covered significant weather events such as Tropical Storm Hilary as both a forecaster and reporter, as well as California’s drought and its impact on the agriculture industry during those dry years.
Celine always had an interest in covering stories that impacted the community surrounding her, a passion she displayed in college, Bakersfield, and will continue to do in Portland.
During the pandemic in college, many of her stories revolved around protests, such as some of those during the Black Lives Matter Movement, freedom marches led by Indigenous women, and more.
Celine went to California State University, Northridge, where she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism, and a minor in Popular Culture Studies.
Outside of reporting, Celine also loves going to the beach and doing fun water activities like kayaking, trying out new cafes and boba shops, and finding a great book to read.
