Amy-Xiaoshi DePaola, also known as Amy, joined the KGW team Oct. 2023.

She grew up in Lake Arrowhead, California, and spent most of her life in Long Beach. Amy attended California State University Long Beach, getting her bachelor's in English education with an emphasis in literature, as well as a minor in Chinese Language and Culture. She later got her master's in mass communications at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University.

Though getting her start in journalism later in life, it entered the bloodstream at a young age from her mom, a former reporter who covered city politics, investigations, education and breaking news across the U.S. However, Amy always had a passion for telling stories; she just didn't think they would be nonfiction.

Prior to joining KGW, Amy was a digital production intern for the azcentral/Arizona Republic and the San Francisco Chronicle; a freelancer and graduate assistant for the Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism at ASU; a money/politics reporter for Cronkite News in D.C.; a staff writer for AsAm News, an Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI)-focused online news site; a web producer at FOX40 News based in Sacramento; and a digital producer at Gannett's West Hub Desk, which covered California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Utah and Arizona.

In her free time, Amy enjoys reading, writing, experimenting in the kitchen, going hiking, and babying her two cats.

Amy never really checks social media except while on the job, so email her at adepaola@kgw.com.
