BEND, Ore. -- Ben Ferguson, 23, of Bend has earned a spot in PyeongChang, competing in halfpipe.
This is Ferguson's first trip to an Olympics. He joins favorite Shaun White in the event.
What could have been a incredible double ticket for the Ferguson family did not materialize when his younger brother Gabe, also a member of the U.S. Snowboard team, came up short in Olympic qualifying.
Ferguson started snowboarding at age six, according to his NBC Olympics biography. At age 16, he was double medalist at the Winter Youth Olympic Games. In 2016, he finished second at X Games Aspen and the Burton U.S. Open.
He has experience at the PyeongChang venue, finishing fourth in a test event last year.
