Fire at Vancouver house and duplex displaces 26 people

Crews fought "heavy fire" Sunday night at two residential buildings in the 3300 block of East 18th Street.

VANCOUVER, Wash. — At least 26 people were forced out of their homes Sunday night because of fire in a house and a neighboring duplex.

Vancouver Fire Department crews were called to the 3300 block of East 18th Street, near Norris Road, shortly after 7 P.M., on the report of a fire.

Arriving crews discovered heavy flames in a one-story house and a two-story duplex next door.

The two-alarm fire pulled in engines from Clark County Fire District 6. Firefighters attacked the fire from the outside until help could arrive, Vancouver Fire said.

Once reinforcements arrived, they were able to enter the structures and control the fires from inside, firefighters said.

Only one unit in the duplex was damaged. No injuries were reported.
