Rash of car break-ins at Lake Oswego dog park

At least six cars have been broken into over the last month at Hazelia Field Dog Park in Lake Oswego. In most cases, police said, the thieves broke windows to get inside.

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. -- Police are warning visitors to Hazelia Field Dog Park in Lake Oswego after a rash of recent car break-ins.

According to Lake Oswego Police Lt. Darryl Wrisley, six car break-ins were reported over the last month. In one case, Wrisley said the victim left the car door unlocked. In other cases, he said the crook broke windows to get inside.

“You know, to hear something like this it's kind of shocking,” said park visitor Sergio Aguilera, who believed the neighborhood was relatively safe.

To make matters worse, Wrisley said, the thieves had been going from the park straight to nearby stores and quickly racking up charges on the victims' credit cards.

“I always make sure I lock the car and keep the windows up, because I'm watching my dog, not watching the car,” said park visitor, Rosie Augustine. “You just never know.”

To keep from becoming the victim of a car break-in, police suggest everyone keep their car doors locked, windows rolled up, and the inside of their cars "showroom clean." That means not leaving any property inside the cars.

Anyone with information on these car break-ins was asked to call Lake Oswego Police.
