SAUVIE ISLAND, Ore. -- A helicopter crashed into a field on Sauvie Island late Tuesday afternoon.
The crash was reported shortly after 5 p.m. in the 23000 block of Northwest Oak Island Road.
One man, the pilot, was in the helicopter, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office. He was helped out of the chopper and taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Deputies said he was "in a lot of pain" but was conscious and breathing when responders arrived.
The helicopter, a Robinson R22, is registered with Hillsboro Aero Academy.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
