PORTLAND, Ore. — Actress Kristen Bell went to Instagram to make a plea for people to help teachers get the supplies they need. She called it the "10 Featured Teachers Challenge."
It's a call for fans to send supplies to teachers in need.
Erica Hale teaches 4th grade at Faubion School in Northeast Portland. She told her story on Instagram. Actress Rose McIver saw it and featured her Amazon wish list for her classroom last week.
Hale says she's gotten all kinds of items, from Clorox wipes to things she'll use to create a podcast with her students later this year.
“It’s really a big deal, felt like I won the teacher lottery,” said Hale.
The challenge was so successful Bell extended the program. Jose Tipton-Guerrero from Metzger Elementary in Tigard submitted his list and made the 10 featured teachers.
“I’m grateful she’s using her platform to put a spotlight on teachers,” said Tipton-Guerrero. He hasn’t received any supplies yet but expects them to start arriving this week.
