PORTLAND, Ore — Tigard Police arrested a 26-year-old man after he allegedly started four fires in Tigard on Friday morning.

Joseph Tyler Martinez was charged with Arson I, two counts of Reckless Burning and Criminal Mischief.

Police and Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue were called out to a suspicious fire outside a business at 11606 Southwest Pacific Highway. Firefighters extinguished the blaze before it caused serious damage, officials said.

According to police, a witness provided them with a description of the suspect.

A Tigard Police officer spotted Martinez near the Highway 217 overpass on Pacific Highway shortly after noon. Police said a citizen reported a man "acting suspicious" near there.

Three other fires were reported Friday morning at a Tri-Met shelter near the intersection of Main and Scoffins, another fire was reported near the American Legion, just blocks away. And a fourth fire was reported near the Union Gospel Mission location on Pacific Highway.
