Gresham man arrested for attempted murder after stabbing ex-girlfriend, deputies say

HAPPY VALLEY, Ore. — A Gresham man faces an attempted murder charge after police said he stabbed his ex-girlfriend multiple times at a Happy Valley home on Monday.

Alain Rafael Rodriguez-Francis44, also stabbed himself in the arm before he was taken into custody, according to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office. 

The victim, a 35-year-old Happy Valley woman, was treated and released from a hospital. Deputies said she suffered stab wounds to her neck and hands.

Deputies responded to multiple 911 callers reporting a man with a knife stabbed a woman in a home near Southeast Misty Drive and 162nd Avenue Monday morning. Several people fled the house after the stabbing, but the suspect, later identified as Rodriguez-Francis, barricaded himself in the home, deputies said.

The Clackamas County SWAT team responded to the home and a 4-person team, along with a K-9, entered the home and found Rodriguez-Francis wounded on a bed. Medics took him to a hospital.

After his release, Rodriguez-Francis was booked at the Clackamas County Jail, where he is being held without bail for attempted murder. He also faces two counts of failure to appear in court for alleged possession and use of a stolen vehicle.

The case was forwarded to the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office.
