Portland-area realtors raise money to buy meals for health care workers

The group donated 250 meals in the first week and that number will climb to 500 this week.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Rebecca Green and her colleagues at Hasson Company Realtors decided they wanted to do something to help during the coronavirus pandemic.

They came up with an idea that would keep some restaurant workers on the job and provide meals to health care workers. They set up a GoFundMe account and the donations took off.

“In the first 24 to 30 hours we raised $5,000. From there we raised $10,000 in just five days and today we're up over $12,000," said Green.

They donated 250 meals in the first week. This week, that number will climb to about 500.

Baja Fresh, in Lake Oswego, Sunny's Diner in Happy Valley, Picassco Pizza, Golden Corral in Vancouver and Bentley's Bagels in Northwest Portland are the restaurants that are providing meals right now.

"We are trying to spread the wealth as much as we can. We're expanding with more restaurants and trying to get into as many hospitals as we can," Green said.
