Fire damages Tualatin manufacturer

Crews from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue were dispatched about 3:45 a.m. and were putting out hot spots several hours later.

TUALATIN, Ore. -- An early morning fire Wednesday damaged a building at Fulcrum Technologies, 9528 Southwest Tualatin Road.

Crews from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue were dispatched about 3:45 a.m. and were putting out hot spots several hours later. There were no injuries.

The fire was a challenge, crews say, because the building is about 100 years old and has had many remodels. Because of this, there were many empty spaces inside of the building, making the fire difficult to reach.

"This is essentially a building inside of a building," said Battalion Chief Mark Cross.

The cause remains under investigation.

The company manufactures the bases on which rest sensitive instruments and production machines used in the semiconductor industry.

Owner Brian Otis told KGW that the damage was located in office areas and the manufacturing equipment was spared.

"We've got good people," he said. "We'll be back pretty quickly I'm sure."
